A practicing physical therapist since 1980, Mike Resop enjoyed treating his home health patients throughout Adams and York counties in south central Pennsylvania. As a home health "P.T." Mike's work consisted of helping his patients become as safe, mobile and independent as possible through exercise and instruction. He became more convinced as time went on that getting the correct, properly fitted equipment was another essential part of the equation.

Disgusted By The Pain

He became increasingly dismayed and disgusted, however, by the pain, deformities and skin problems experienced by some of his patients because of incorrectly prescribed and awfully fitting mobility equipment.

In effect, these folks were suffering because a salesperson didn't know any better, or didn't care what happened after the sale.

Mike also heard too many stories of sub-standard service from dealers that (supposedly) served his area; from unacceptable delays to totally ignoring client calls for equipment repairs or adjustment.

Disgust Turns Into Action

There was a vital need for local, prompt, appropriate, and courteous service by a health professional that understood anatomy, physiology, seating and positioning, along with home accessibility issues. In response to the need, along with Mike’s entrepreneurial bent, Mobility By Design was launched in August 2001.

Since then, Mike has sought to use his physical therapist background to assure that clients are measured carefully and advised as to what options are available to make sure they are as safe and independent as possible.

Humble Beginnings

The business was started in an old dental office with small rooms, narrow halls and doorways, poor parking, and handicapped inaccessible front steps. Initially Mobility By Design was only open Tuesday and Thursday mornings, while Mike continued as a full time home health physical therapist.

Today, Mobility By Design is easily accessible at its new location of 3010 York Road, Gettysburg, just 3 1/2 miles east of the Gettysburg Wal-mart. You'll find ample parking, a large showroom, convenient hours, and a staff of health professionals - all trained and ready to "help you stay mobile, stay active, and stay in the home you love!"
